Fluffy Clouds
Created, danced, and edited by Hannah McClean
Sound: A Conversation with Rickie Lee Jones
Fluffy Clouds is a kinetic poster that mimics a TV screensaver. Grounded in reality, while the world passes by. It has an inability to move or participate due to uncertain circumstances. Apathetically waiting to make sense and cease but instead fading into obscurity.

In February 2016, I dated a man in Nepal who physically, sexually and emotionally abused me. Two years later, I was seeing a man in California, who sexually assaulted me after I had told him what had happened overseas. I thought that I had healed these parts of me and forgiven my perpetrators. The truth was that I had never felt safe enough to actually look at my trauma. As my mental health stabilized over the last year, the memories and feelings began to resurface. I started to pray about it, write about it and speak about it. I started to dream about sexual assault and my resistance to acknowledging it. At the peak of this emotional unraveling, BOTH of my perpetrators tried to contact me in a matter of weeks. I hadn't spoken to either of them in years. I felt this energy building inside of me. I didn't understand what it was, but it was begging to be released. So, I decided to create. I gathered my materials, did a practice run and by the time we finished filming, the only thoughts running through my head were, "get out, get out, get out." I knew then what this energy was. It belonged to my perpetrators and I had just alchemized it into a living art piece. Now, I know. Their pain is not mine to hold. I owe them nothing. Thank you to all of the trustworthy persons who have supported me through this process. I love you deeply.
